Emirates asks staff to take one month unpaid leave over coronavirus

Emirates airlines are asking its staff to take unpaid leave for up to a month as demand for flights falls because of the coronavirus.

The Middle East airline is considering the suspension of additional routes, as several flights to Asian destinations had stopped operating. Initially, the airline reduced the capacity on its routes, but as the problem grows, it was forced to make service cuts.

The Dubai government has taken steps to prevent the spread of the virus, canceling civic activities, concerts, and public events have been canceled or postponed until further notice. These measures also impact the airline, passengers have begun to cancel flights to or from Dubai.

Emirates Group currently employs more than 100,000 workers worldwide. They have 21,000 cabin crew and 4,000 pilots. The group is involved in other sectors such as Dnata, Emirates Holidays, and Emirates Leisure Retail, among others.
