The EU is launching the EU-Africa Aviation Security project.
This five million euros technical assistance initiative is managed by the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) under the umbrella of the Africa-EU Association and the Africa-Europe Partnership for Sustainable Investment and Employment.
The project will help the African Member States establish an effective safety oversight system over the next three years. The project will provide support at the continental, regional, and national levels.
The EU-ASA project arrives at the right time with the establishment of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), one of the 12 flagship projects of the 2063 Agenda of the African Union.
The projects goals are to strengthen the Regional Safety Oversight Organizations (RSOO) and to establish an effective aviation security oversight system.
The primary beneficiaries will be the African Civil Aviation Commission, the African RSOOs, and the Regional Accident and Incident Investigation Organization. Direct assistance will also be provided to some specific African states.
